Es Portal is in the heart of the Empordà region on the Costa Brava, in a first-class natural, human, historic and cultural setting that offers a whole host of possibilities, all very nearby, to make your stay with us unforgettable.

Beaches, coves and coastal paths

One of the unique aspects of the Empordà region are the coastal paths, which follow the coastline and are an unbeatable option for walking and enjoying the landscape of the Costa Brava in peace and quiet, as well as gaining access to hidden coves. The coastal paths mainly follow routes that are signposted in keeping with international standards – GR footpaths (long-distance); PR footpaths (short-distance) and SL (local footpaths).

Other beaches have been equipped to offer bathers maximum facilities, with showers, bars, rental of sun loungers and pedalos and a whole range of nautical activities, depending on each case.

The wetlands and rice field area around the establishment, which is part of the Baix Ter Natural Park, are also an ideal setting to be enjoyed all year round.

Visit Empordà

Natural and historic heritage

Part of Pals municipal area is found in the Partial Natural Reserve of the Montgrí, Medes Isles and Baix Ter Natural Park: the Rec del Molí flows through the protected agricultural area of the Pals rice field sector. We are very close to the hamlet known as Les Vinyoles, part of which serves as a biological corridor between these protected areas and Quermany Mountain. We are also very nearby to the Pals Beach sand dunes and other areas of natural interest such as the Basses d’en Coll and the Gavarres area.

Pals is one of the best-preserved mediaeval fortified towns and is close to exceptional places such as Peratallada, Palau-Sator and Torroella de Montgrí and you can also enjoy archaeological sites such as the ones found in Ullastret or the Ruins of Empúries. We are also close to emblematic museums related to trades in the territory, such as Ca la Pruna-Pals Underwater Archaeology Museum, the Fishing Museum in Palamós, the Cork Museum in Palafrugell, the Pottery Museum in La Bisbal d’Empordà, and the Mediterranean Museum in Torroella de Montgrí, as well as the Anchovy and Salt Museum in L’Escala, not forgetting the Dalí Museum in Figueres, his castle in Púbol and his home in Cadaqués.

Costa Brava

Markets, trade fairs and shopping

The weekly fruit and vegetable markets that are held in the main towns in the region such as Palafrugell, La Bisbal d’Empordà and Torroella de Montgrí, are an attraction in the area as they allow you to purchase products directly from local farmers. La Bisbal and its nearby area are known for specialising in the world of pottery, with the ‘Ceràmica de la Bisbal’ distinctive of protected origin. If you would like to bid at a fish auction, you can go to the fish markets in L’Escala or Palamós.

You can also acquire other traditional products in this area, in particular wines produced in different wineries with the ‘Empordà’ Denomination of Origin. You can also purchase traditional products from butchers and delicatessens and from cheese producers, as well as local curds, honey and cakes, jams and marmalades. There is a varied offer of trade fairs that are held in the different towns in the area.

If you would prefer to go shopping in an urban setting you should visit Platja d’Aro, as well as Palamós, Palafrugell and Torroella de Montgrí. All these places are close to our establishment.
